5 reasons and ways to take care of your mental health

Hey everyone, so I decided to write about mental health partly because I’ve been thinking about it a lot recently. But also because I feel like everyone including myself at times neglects their mental health. This is going to be a long blog post so before you start reading it make sure to curl up into your favorite blanket make some tea or coffee and enjoy reading what I have to say on this topic. :) The first reason on why you should take care of your mental health is that you need to take care of yourself before you can take care of other people or else it could cost you your health. A few years ago, I was getting sick a lot because of stress. My head was hurting a lot, I was having a hard time focusing, during the winter I always had a cold because my immune system was low. It got to the point that I had to get away from all the stress for a little bit. So when my parents separated for a while I went to Texas for 3 weeks and South Carolina for 1 week. During that time away I realized that I needed to take better care of my mental health because I was burned out. Two of the verses that still helps me is Psalms 23:2-3 which says;” He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.” Because in life there are times that all of us need to rest and be refreshed and Christ can help us with that if we let him. A good way to do that is by reading and writing. Something that I’ve been doing is writing down what I’m thankful for and reading on nights that I don’t have anything going on. The 2nd reason is because it’ll impact you and those around you. During the time that stress was affecting my health, it also affected my mood. Which is why it’s SO IMPORTANT to take care of your mental health. A good way to do that is by praying and listening to music. 1st Peter 5:7 says;” cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” Did you catch that? “Cast all your anxiety on him.” Not some of your anxiety all of your anxiety!!! The 3rd reason is because it can affect your energy and how you act around people. A good way to help with that is by laying down and doing nothing. Because life can get crazy especially with this corona virus going around which is causing a lot of crazy stuff to happen. Philippians 4:6-7 says;” Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving present your requests to God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your mind in Christ Jesus.” I know life can be stressful but with God by your side you don’t have anything to be afraid of. Which brings me to the 4th reason. It can affect all areas of your life. Which is why it’s so important to talk to close friends and family. Which is why reason 5 is that it can increase your life span along with exercising. Jeremiah 29:11 says;” For I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. I’m going to finish up by challenging you to really take what I said heart and to know that God has a plan for your life you just need to be patient.
