Following God’s will

Hey everyone, so this week I’ll be talking about having the courage to do what God has called you to do. Because I feel like you can say that you’ll follow God’s will but saying and actually following God’s will are 2 different things. Because I’ve seen people say that for example, I’ll tell the truth to someone about what they did but then when the opportunity arises, they chicken out. Depending on that particular situation it can hurt other people if he or she decides to lie when it comes to lying it’s never a wise idea to lie or even get in the middle of other people’s problems even if they try to get you in the middle of it.

 A verse that talks about what you should do when you are in that particular situation and life, in general, is Psalms 27:14;” Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” Did you catch that? WAIT for the Lord! Because while I know from personal experience being in the middle of arguments is not fun. Honestly, it can hurt sometimes but just because that’s happening doesn’t mean that you should let those people control you.

For me personally, whenever I’m trying to decide when it comes to my life first, I pray about it, then talk to a good friend about it then if I feel like I’m ready to decide about it I make the decision typically then follow through on it for life decisions. For ministry decisions, I’m slowly starting to ask myself is this following the great commission. For those of you who have never heard of the great commission, it’s found in the last chapter of Matthew towards the end of that chapter. Matthew 28:16-20 (NIV) says;” Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to go to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  Now let’s just focus on the fact that some of the disciples doubted for a second here because I don’t know about you but for me, there are times that I doubt certain things including at 1 point my faith because I just went through a phase that I wasn’t sure what I believed because I’ve never doubted that Christ is real but at the same time there were some things about the Christian faith in general that I wasn’t sure about.

  Take the time that I was dating my now ex-boyfriend for example: while I was dating him his Mom had him ask me what denomination I was and at the time I wasn’t sure, and I told him that. Partly because I had grown up changing churches a lot but also was still in the process of making my faith my own. Maybe you’re going through a phase that you’re not quite sure what you believe when it comes to the Christian faith for the same reason as me or because you are still new to Christianity well, I’m here to tell you that it’s okay to take your time to figure out what you believe. For me personally, with communion, I believe that as long as you’ve given your life to Christ and feel led to take communion then you should take it and the same concept with baptism if you feel led to be baptized and feel that you are ready to fully commit your life to Christ then you should be baptized. Both of those are your decision.  Neither of which should be taken lightly. Because baptism and communion both are matters of the heart and if you feel like something isn’t right either within your heart or life then you shouldn’t do it.

Proverbs 23:19 (NIV) says;” Listen to my son and be wise and set your heart on the right path. “Side note, when I opened my bible to look up this verse, I noticed that chapter 23 in Proverbs is separated into saying after v. 17 of 22 are as well hmm weird. Anyway, on that note. What I believe Solomon is talking about in this particular verse is to be wise in your decisions which can include multiple situations. For me right now it involves getting ready to move out of my parent’s house for different reasons 1 of which is that I really want to have some distance from family. Although honestly, all of us could use wisdom in every area of our lives with school, work, family, etc. Something useful when it comes to following God’s will is being patient because while with life anything can happen very quickly it’s also important to take life 1 day at a time or else, you’ll get worn out and miss what’s right in front of you.
