Your testimony

Hey everyone, so this week I’ll be talking about why your testimony is important because the fact is everyone’s story is important even if it’s big, small, or medium. Because not only is your testimony important it has the power to change lives. Take my testimony, for example, growing up I was told that I couldn’t learn from my 4th-grade principal, went from church to church, saw somewhat was happening between my parents and was in physical, speech, occupational therapy and at one point had seen a physiatrist because I had weak bones, had trouble talking at first, had trouble with stuff like playing with blocks and tying my shoes and on top of all that I had trouble socializing and making friends. Because I had trouble communicating because of how I was raised. That’s just part of my testimony. I brought that up to show you that everyone has something that they’ve gone through. There’s nothing to be ashamed about even the small things that you struggle with.

Everything happens for a reason. Romans 8:27 (NIV) says; “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” You have been called according to HIS purpose! Not the people that have hurt you in the past and who will hurt you in the future because life is full of twists and turns even when it brings you to your breaking point God will always be with you through it all! All the good, bad, and ugly. Because let’s just face it Satan will always try to drag you down if you let him. But it’s up to you if you let Satan drag you down or let God bring you up from the storm.

Now, I have a question for you. Has God ever let you down? For me, the answer to that particular question is no. Because while there have been times in my life that I wasn’t sure about certain things in my life the one thing that I’ve been certain about is God’s love for me and you! Even a few years ago when I was in a long-distance relationship that had its good points but there were also times that we both got too intimate with each other. So, after we broke up, I went through a season that I was ashamed of what I did and for the longest time thought it was my fault. Even though that happened I know now that I can manage anything that life throws at me.

Take this past week for example I’m starting at Walmart on the 26th of this month and my managers thought that I was starting this week, so they took me off the schedule for the rest of this week after Wednesday, so I was very stressed out because right now I’m in the process of moving out and starting school in the fall both of which are pretty scary to me because while I’ve lived away from my parents before. That was for a school that I got paid to go to school. Even though it’s scary I’ve gone through a lot of scary stuff including with my health because health is not something you want to mess with both mental and physical health. So, to me what may seem pretty crazy to other people isn’t very crazy to myself personally.

When it comes to your testimony something that I’ve found helpful when writing my own testimony is thinking about where I was before I became a Christian even the parts that I strayed away from Christ for a time. Which for me was both during the time that I was going to Ottumwa Job Corps but also while I was getting used to living with my parents again after thinking that I wasn’t going to move back in with them and when it was first decided that I was moving back to Des Moines after I separated I wasn’t very happy about it, to put it mildly, it was also during that time that I was in my first relationship which there were many times that it got too intimate too fast which was not a wise idea on both my part and my ex-boyfriend’s part. My point is everyone has periods during their lives that you’re not too proud of and that’s okay. There’s no point in beating yourself up over stuff that happened in the past even if it takes some time to realize that. It took me a little more than a year after we broke up to realize that and I remember thinking to myself. Why did I do this??? It’s all my fault that he blocked me and while by the grace of God I never got suicidal or got very depressed I did go into a mood of self-pity which is not healthy, and it can burn you out big time. If you are in a mood of self-pity or are burned out, I just want to encourage you that by the grace of God you will get through this just be patient with yourself and find something that helps you get your mind off why you are beating yourself up mentally and reach out to someone you trust and tell them what’s going on.

Another thing that’s good to share in your testimony is your theological background. Did you grow up in the church? And if you did. How has that impacted your spiritual walk with Christ. For me, I grew up going to multiple churches the only church that I stayed at the longest was Grace church but that wasn’t until I was twelve.

So, during the time that I was living in Ottumwa while I never second-guessed that God is real, I also wasn’t sure if I believed the same things that they believe. If you didn’t grow up in church like I did, then what you could do is share what changed in you since you gave your life to Christ and in your life.

The reason that your testimony is important is that it shows both what you’ve gone through over the years, and it can also lead others to Christ which is the ultimate goal! As I close, I just want to challenge you to write out your testimony and to remember that your testimony is still being created by the one that created you which is God!
