Hey everyone, so this week I’ll be talking about finding hope through music because I feel like everyone could use some hope with all the crazy things happening in this world. For me, I don’t just listen to Christian music because my policy when it comes to music is that if it isn’t clean then I try to stay away from it. Take the song one call away for example by Charlie Puth, it reminds me of Christ’s love for us now, I realize it’s primarily for couples but there are some love songs that I listen to as long as they aren’t depressing. There are some songs that can bring you down but it’s up to you whether or not you listen to those songs.
Personally, music has helped me through a lot of what I’ve gone through in the past and even now with different decisions and just life in general. Colossians 3:16 (NIV) says;” Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.” With any Christian song and hymn and some non-Christian songs, you can learn a lot from them. What I think this particular verse is saying in my own words is that through the message of Christ you can teach quite a bit.
Take the second verse of Amazing Grace by John Newton for example Twas grace that taught my heart to fear and grace my fears relieved; how did that grace appear the hour I first believed!” For me, grace and my faith in Christ are how I’ve gotten through all of life’s obstacles. Which is what John Newton is talking about.
In life, there are many struggles. But you know what? That’s okay because through Christ we can get through anything. Take where I work for example: right now, there’s someone that’s getting on everyone’s nerves and right now I’m doing my best to keep my cool at work which isn’t easy at times, but I know that this is just a season and that in God’s timing I won’t have to stress but at the same time I’m also trying to live in the moment.
In Romans 5 Paul talks about rejoicing in our sufferings. Here are the verses that talk about it. Romans 5:3-5 (NIV) says;” Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” In life there are struggles whether it be family, work even church because the church isn’t perfect something that I learned in my early teens is that it isn’t a building that makes the church it’s the people and that no one is perfect. I’ll talk more about my personal church experience in the next blog post because there’s a lot. With these particular verses even through the hard times, we’re called to be brave but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t okay not to cry sometimes because crying does show bravery.
Life is hard sometimes but through music, Christ, and encouragement from people and life in general there is hope. For me, all of these have brought encouragement through this crazy roller coaster called life.
With music I love singing and tend to sing whenever I’m bored am feeling stressed, sometimes sing in front of other people something that well now not very many know is that that’s what got me through being bullied when I was a kid in public school which was hard to go through combined with having to go to occupational, speech and physical therapy occupational and physical therapy along with seeing a therapist helped with my social skills until I was 14 and off and on until speech therapy 3 years ago and therapist until I was 15. I’m honestly very thankful that I don’t have as many struggles now compared to growing up or even 3 years ago because yeah there are still things that I struggle with both physically and mentally and that’s okay because I know that I get through anything life throws at me. I hope and pray that after reading this you’ll realize that you’ll be okay as well!
With Christ and my faith in general that’s honestly had the biggest influence in my life that’s what got me through losing someone that even though I never heard him talk I considered my friend Jordan my friend and was very sad when I found out in Walmart when I was 8 that he passed away and is one of those people that I’ll never forget and I know in my heart that I’ll get to see him again someday and am very thankful that I met him even if it was just a short time. That’s just one of the many examples I have!
With encouragement from other people along with life, I’ve met many unique people and each of them has encouraged me whether it be when I was growing up or even now as I’m going through different situations in my life.
As I close, I hope your feeling encouraged, refreshed, and uplifted by what I have to say!
