Hey everyone, this week I’ll be talking about Palm Sunday and the importance of being humble. When Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, He chose humility and peace instead of power and pride. This reminds us that being humble and having a gentle spirit are two very important traits we should strive to have in our own lives. This moment shows us that true strength doesn’t come from being the most powerful or the most recognized, but from having a heart that is willing to serve others. Jesus Christ demonstrated that humility is not weakness, but a choice to put love, kindness, and peace first.
As we reflect on Palm Sunday, we can ask ourselves how we can live more like this in our daily lives. Whether it’s showing kindness to someone who is struggling, choosing patience when it’s hard, or putting others before ourselves, humility is something we practice every day.
For this next part, I want you to get a notebook and a pencil or pen out and write down at least 3 things you can do to show kindness. For me personally, three things I can do are:
1. Ask how the person is doing and really listen to what they’re saying.
2. If something is going on in their life, ask if there’s anything I can do to help.
3. Pray for them.
Maybe these three are the same for you, or maybe they’re different. The main thing is that you show the person that you care. By following this example, we grow not only in our faith but also in our character, becoming more loving, compassionate, and Christ-like in everything we do. Take Matthew 21:5 for example. Matthew 21:5 (NIV) says, “Say to Daughter Zion, ‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” Instead of coming as a powerful king on a war horse, Jesus chose a donkey symbolizing peace and humility. Because that’s how Jesus was back then and now, and as Christians, it’s important to follow his example.
Plus, from a mental health viewpoint, it keeps you centered on him and can help you think more positively. Both of which are important and can help you when you’re going through what feels like a roller coaster, and you just don’t know what to do. Whether it comes from the loss of a family member or conflict between people in your life, you may feel a strong desire to help in any way you can—no matter what that looks like. That’s something that I’ve dealt with recently, from my dad passing away last year and my Grandmother passing away this year, both of which have been hard, but I know in time that I’ll be okay. If you’re going through a hard time this Lent season, I just want to encourage you that you’ll be okay because one of the things I love about this time of year is that it symbolizes peace.
Take Good Friday, for example, Christ died on the cross for our sins so that we can have a chance to be forgiven. Luke 23:39-43 (NIV) says,” 39 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: ‘Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!” 40 But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.” 42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” 43 Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” While Jesus was on the cross, he showed compassion by telling the man that he would join him in Heaven. That’s what he meant by saying that the man will join him in paradise. When you give your life to Christ, that’s where you will be.
As I close, I hope you learned a lot from what I’ve said in this blog post, and as always, if you ever need to talk, have any questions, or prayer requests.
