Hey everyone, this week I’ll be talking about having faith instead of fear because God’s been teaching me about it a lot lately. Because life can be stressful, and it can be easy to forget that God is in control, no matter what life and Satan throw at us.
Psalms 13:5-6 (NIV) says,” But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me.” Did you catch that? “But I trust in your unfailing love.” God’s love for us is unconditional, so we don’t have to worry because God will love us and has a plan for all of us. If you’re going through a tough season, take comfort in the fact that God will carry you through it no matter what happens. Just as David trusted God in what he was going through, we can trust God as well.
Lately, life has felt like a roller coaster, full of ups and downs. Through it all, I’ve been learning what it truly means to have courage, especially in the middle of chaos. If life feels that way for you, too, I just want to encourage you to choose faith over fear. Having faith means trusting that Christ is in control, no matter what is happening in your life. Joshua 1:9 (NIV) says,” Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Just as this verse says, God will be with you wherever you go, and as a result, you can be strong and courageous.
Take a moment to try two simple exercises. First, look at yourself in the mirror—or even at your phone—and say, “I am strong, I am courageous, and I can face anything the devil sends my way, no matter what.”
Second, write or type that statement somewhere you’ll see it every day. Let it be a reminder of your strength. Along with that, write down a few things you can do when you’re feeling down and don’t know what to do—whether that’s praying, listening to worship music, reaching out to someone, or simply taking a moment to breathe. These small steps can help ground you and remind you of the strength and faith you carry, even on the hardest days. Which is honestly why I had you do those exercises.
Plus, from a mental health perspective, knowing that Christ gives you the strength to be courageous helps you know that you will be okay. Personally, there are things in my life that are unknown, and I’m slowly learning to be okay with that. Because one of the things that is unknown in my life is what I’m going to do with my life. Which I was talking about a few weeks ago with a friend of mine.
Because I know I want to help people, which is honestly why, with this blog, I’m slowly moving towards more of a mental health theme. Beyond that, I’m honestly not quite sure what I want to do just yet. Jeremiah 29:11-12 (NIV) says,” For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.” God has a plan for all of us, and how we learn and understand what he wants us to do with our lives is by talking to Christ. That’s something I’ve been learning about quite a bit because recently, as I said before, life has been crazy. Between visiting family, doing a psychology class on the side, and writing my first book and article, among other things. I’ve learned to take life one minute at a time because you never know when life is going to change. That’s something I learned last year with my dad. I just want to encourage you, while life can be crazy. Having faith is easier than you think, no matter what people tell you. Matthew 17:20 (NIV) says,” He replied, ‘Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Even if you have faith as small as a mustard seed. You still have faith! Because as you grow, so will your faith doesn’t matter how old you are; you can be ages 7 to 100. There’s always time to grow. Which is exactly what this verse is talking about!
As I close, I just want to challenge you to find ways that you can choose faith over fear. If you need any help with that or have any prayer requests, questions, need some advice, or anything.
