Life from a Christian perspective

Hey everyone! This week, I’ll be talking about faith and second chances. Sometimes, giving someone a second chance means having faith that things can be different and trusting God to guide you through the process. That’s something God has been teaching me through my experiences with different people.

If you’re going through something similar—whether you’re trying to give someone a second chance, rebuild a relationship, or simply figure out what God is teaching you through it—then this week’s posts are for you.

Ecclesiastes 3:7-8 (NIV) says, “a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.”

Just like there’s a time for fall, spring, summer, and winter, there are different seasons in our relationships and in our lives. Some relationships can be mended, while others may simply require forgiveness, healing, and healthy boundaries. Whether it’s a dating relationship, a family relationship, or a friendship, God can use each situation to teach us something. Sometimes mending a relationship means restoring it, while other times it may simply mean forgiving the person without necessarily having contact with them again.

For me personally, there are a few people who I’ve made the decision not to contact but have forgiven. There are also people I’ve forgiven and am still friends with. That decision honestly depends on three factors: if God leads you to be friends with them, what happened that led to you no longer being friends, and whether or not they apologize and take responsibility for what happened.

Even then, there are times when a friendship may not work out. If that does happen, just know that God is always in control!

This past weekend, my mom and I stayed with a husband and wife that we’ve known for many years. During that time, the husband wasn’t treating his wife, my mom, or me very well. As a result, my mom and I didn’t get very much sleep, and the next day, not long after church, we went to a hotel. My mom and I were exhausted for a few days after that.

I’m sharing this because that experience reminded me that having faith doesn’t mean ignoring what is happening around us. Sometimes faith means recognizing when we need to step away from a situation, trusting God with the people involved, and believing that He can still work even when we can’t fix the situation ourselves.

The main reason I shared this is because life has a way of working itself out even when, realistically, there seems to be no way. That’s exactly how this week has been because even though right now we are still staying in a hotel while God moves mountains to get us where we need to go, I know He will!

If you’re in a situation where you need God to move mountains, then I want to encourage you to keep holding on to your faith and know that God is always in control.

Matthew 17:20 (NIV) says, “He replied, ‘Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.’”

Even when you have faith as small as a mustard seed, God can still move mountains. Having faith that God can move mountains doesn’t mean that He will always move them in the way or timing we expect. It means trusting Him even when we don’t know what He is going to do.

My faith in God is what has kept me going, and I pray it encourages you to keep going too. Because while life can be hard, nothing is impossible with God!

Sometimes having faith also means trusting God when a second chance doesn’t turn out the way we hoped it would. Not every friendship is meant to last forever, and not every second chance will lead to reconciliation. But that doesn’t mean God isn’t working. Sometimes He uses those situations to teach us, protect us, or lead us toward something better. We may not understand what He’s doing right now, but we can trust that He does.

That’s honestly something that I’ve been learning more and more in this season of waiting.

Sometimes a second chance doesn’t look the way we expect it to. We may think a second chance means fixing a friendship or going back to the way things were, but sometimes God has something different in mind. Sometimes the second chance is a chance to start over, to make a different choice, to set healthy boundaries, or to trust God with a situation that we can’t fix ourselves.

I’m learning that having faith doesn’t mean that everything will always work out exactly the way I want it to. It means trusting that God knows what He is doing even when I don’t understand it.

There are times when we may give someone a second chance and things still don’t work out, but that doesn’t mean the second chance was wasted. God can use every situation to teach us something and help us grow. Sometimes the greatest lesson isn’t about restoring a relationship—it’s about learning how to forgive, knowing when to set boundaries, and trusting God with the outcome.

Maybe you’re in a situation right now where you’ve given someone a second chance and you’re wondering if you made the right decision. Or maybe you’re waiting for your own second chance and wondering if things will ever get better.

Whatever situation you’re in, keep trusting God. You may not be able to see the mountain moving yet, but that doesn’t mean God isn’t working behind the scenes.

Sometimes the biggest part of having faith is continuing to trust God when you don’t know what the ending will look like. Remember, God is always in control, and nothing is impossible with Him.

So if you’re waiting for God to move a mountain in your life, keep holding on. Keep praying. Keep trusting. And remember that sometimes God’s answer to our prayer may look different from what we expected—but His plan is always bigger than ours.

As I close, I have 2 questions for you:

What does having faith in a second chance mean to you?

Have you ever had a situation where you had to trust God even though you didn’t know how things were going to work out?

I’d love to hear your story in the comments, or you can always message me on my Facebook page called Faithful or email me at homeschoolgradblog@gmail.com.
